Sous privacy policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
Sous is a cooking app that turns a recipe link into a list of ingredients and steps, and can help you put those ingredients in a store's online cart. It is made by Leetdreet, based in Texas, USA.
This page says what information Sous handles, where it goes, and what you can do about it. The short version: Sous keeps your own things on your phone, shares recipes through one library that every user can read, has no ads and no tracking, and never sells information.
What stays on your phone
- A copy of your recipe book. Sous fetches a link from your phone, directly from the site it points to. If you are signed in, the recipes you save are kept in your account (see below), and your phone keeps a copy so you can read them without a connection. If you use Sous as a guest, a recipe you look up is kept only until you close the app.
- Your sign-ins to other services (for example Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube, Facebook or Walmart). When you choose to sign in to one of these inside Sous, you do it on that service's own page. Sous never sees or stores your password for them. The sign-in is remembered by your phone's browser storage, the same way a web browser remembers it, and it goes only to that service.
- Your choice of pickup or delivery for a store.
Removing the app removes all of this.
The shared recipe library
Sous keeps one library of recipes, shared by everyone who uses the app, so that a recipe found once can be shown straight away to the next person who pastes the same link.
- Looking up a link. When you paste a link, Sous first asks our server whether that link's recipe is already in the library. To do that it sends the link's identity: which site it is on and the post's id. We do not keep a record of who asked about which link.
- Adding to the library. If you are signed in and Sous finds a recipe on your phone that is not in the library yet, it sends that recipe to the library: the title, the creator's name, the link to the original post, the ingredients and the steps, together with your account's id so that we can deal with abuse. Other users can read the recipe; they cannot see who added it. Guests do not add to the library.
- How often a recipe is opened. The library keeps a count, per recipe, of how often it has been opened. It is a number, not a record of who opened it. The Explore page uses it to show popular recipes.
- Credit. Every recipe in the library names its creator and links to the original post. If you made a recipe and want it removed from the library, write to us and we will remove it.
- If you delete your account, the link between you and the recipes you added is removed. The recipes themselves stay in the library, with no account attached.
If you create a Sous account
A Sous account is optional. The app works without one.
If you create one, we store:
- your email address,
- your password, in a scrambled form that cannot be read back, by us or anyone else;
- your recipe book: the recipes you save and when you saved them, so they are there on any phone you sign in on. Other Sous users cannot read them;
- which recipes you added to the shared library, as described above.
We use them only to sign you in, to send you the emails the account needs (a code to confirm your address, a code to reset your password), and to answer you if you write to us. We do not send marketing email.
Your sign-in session is kept on your phone, in its secure storage.
When a sign-in is refused, Sous asks our server whether there is an account with that email, so it can tell you whether the email or the password was wrong. To stop that check being misused, our server counts how often each internet address asks: it keeps a scrambled form of the address (one that cannot be turned back into the address without a secret key we hold), the hour, and a count, and deletes them within three hours. Our hosting provider's own short-lived request logs, mentioned below, also record internet addresses.
Who else handles this information
We use two companies to run accounts and the library. Each handles only what its job needs:
- Supabase stores account records (email address, scrambled password, sign-in times) and the shared recipe library, on servers in the western United States. As part of running its service, Supabase keeps short-lived technical logs of the requests made to it, which include the internet address of the device that made them.
- Brevo delivers the account emails, so it handles your email address and the content of those emails.
Our domain and email forwarding are provided by Cloudflare. If you email us, your message passes through Cloudflare and is delivered to our inbox at Google (Gmail).
When you open a recipe link or use a store's cart through Sous, your phone talks to that site or store directly, and their own privacy policies apply to what they receive.
What Sous does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or tracking of what you do in the app. The one count we keep is how often each recipe in the library is opened, and it is not tied to you.
- No selling or renting of information, to anyone.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.
- Sous never completes a purchase. It can add items to a store's cart; you review the cart and pay in the store's own app or site.
How long we keep account information
Until your account is deleted. When it is deleted, the account record and your recipe book are removed from our live systems, and the recipes you added to the library are no longer linked to any account. A recipe you remove from your book is removed from our live systems straight away (backups aside, as below). Copies held in our hosting provider's backups, where they exist, are overwritten on that provider's schedule.
Your choices
- Use Sous without an account. Nothing about you is stored with us. Looking up a link sends only the link's identity to our server, as described above.
- Delete your account in the app (Account, then Your profile, then "Delete my Sous account", confirming with your password), or by email. See how to delete your Sous account.
- Ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. We will answer within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have further legal rights over your information (for example under GDPR in Europe, or state privacy laws in the United States). Write to us and we will honour them.
Children
Sous is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. If a change means we handle more information than before, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
